It already has several restaurants in the state - all of which Sonheim said are “doing great” - and is about to open one in Holland. Sonheim said the company is having great success growing in Michigan. HopCat still has 16 other locations in various states. He said the closure was disappointing, citing the restaurant’s “great team” of workers and enthusiastic fans. “Geographically, it wasn’t the right mix of residential and commercial locations that generated a good traffic amount,” Sonheim said in a Monday afternoon phone interview, also noting that several other restaurants in the area have closed. He said Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood just wasn’t the right fit. Joe Sonheim, the director of marketing for BarFly Ventures, which owns HopCat, told 24 Hour News 8 that it had been in the works for some time.
